If you believe the COVID-19 pandemic means the property market is probably enjoying a bit of a hiatus, you couldn’t be more wrong.

It’s certainly true that there was a period of little activity as both buyers and sellers hunkered down to see what would happen next. Completed sales did take a bit of a dip in April as a result.

But, although many high street agents around the globe may not be all that keen on the internet or paying the portals like Rightmove to advertise their portfolios, it’s been a life-saver since early March, allowing potential buyers to continue to browse.

Once the restrictions on viewings were eased in early May, it was like lifting the lid on a pressure cooker and demand was back with a bang.

High demand

It’s been no different for us – particularly in Turkey. Perhaps inspired by a desire to escape – fuelled first by Brexit and now by the impact of coronavirus – we’ve seen a surge in demand in inquiries for homes in the sun. Indeed, it’s been that marked, we’re beginning to anticipate a need for more homes to sell to meet demand.

Generous interest rates on new mortgages have also helped to keep the market buoyant

So, if you’re a potential vendor, and you’ve been waiting for the “right moment”, this could be it.

We would particularly recommend marketing your home if you have property you’d like to sell in locations a little off the beaten track in south-west Turkey.

Places like Kalkan and Bodrum always sell well anyway but, at the moment, we’re seeing some pretty significant demand for villas and apartments in Seydikemer, Kayaköy, Üzümlü and Ovacık.

Citizenship

Don’t forget, if you’re a buyer and your budget is likely to take you over $250,000 and you’re buying from a Turk, you could even qualify for Turkish citizenship – not just for you but also for your immediate family.

Other restrictions on location have also been simplified recently, which has made the process for foreign nationals a little less complicated – and therefore more attractive.
